On the topic of buying local and loving books.
IndieBound : a great way to see what people in your area are buying and reading
Making a mental note to visit the local bookstores instead of always going to Barnes and Noble or Waldenbooks or Target…

| Mini Me… | 28 Jun |
So, I was watching The Other Sister on Starz yesterday while reading Finger Lickin’ Fifteen by Janet Evanovich (finished, btw) and all the sudden our 42″ Flat screen went blank.
Until we can get ahold of the LG people on Tuesday we had to substitute our big screen with a mini me.
I say “how cute!” - James says “how annoying!”
| Frank Lloyd Wright… | 28 Jun |
Deb, Kim, Mom and I went to the Walter Residence yesterday and I have to say that it really put everything into perspective for me after reading Loving Frank.
Although the book had nothing to do with this particular house (because this house was built about 35 years after the end of the Loving Frank’era’) the tour guide did an excellent job describing the details of the house and how Frank made the owner do this or that and not allowing them to have this or that. He would tell them where things went, period, do not question it!
For example: There was a blue vase that the female owner had taken from the spot where Frank had put it, so she could put flowers in it, and placed it somewhere else in the house. Frank visited and took the vase and put it back. He told her, “you can use this vase, but it goes here” - and that was that. He literally picked out all the furniture, linens, appliances, dishes, everything. The Walter’s even asked for a full bed for their room, but Frank said “no” - he made two twin beds that sat next to each other claiming that they would sleep better that way. The Walter Residence was one of the few houses he put his signature on. He was so eccentric, but such a visionary. I thought the book and seeing this house was spectacular and I look forward to seeing Taliesin someday!
This is the blue vase and the Frank Lloyd Wright approval stone taken by Deb. I’ll have my photos next week, hopefully, they are on mom’s camera. You can see more pictures on Deb’s Flickr.

Outside my window…beautiful sunshine day.
I am thinking…that I hope James remembers to drink tons and tons of water over the next couple of days at Tim Dwight’s Football Camp, especially since I know he’ll be partying every night.
I am thankful for…the speedy recovery of my face. It’s healing faster than I anticipated thanks to the use of A&D and penaten creme.
From the kitchen…3/4 cup of quick oats + a little less than 1/4 cup of “Just Blueberries” blueberries + water. Heat 1min 45seconds. Add two packets of splenda and yum, yum in the tum, tum!
I am wearing…green cargo pants, an It’s a Girl Thing T-shirt, and asics.
I am creating…a quilt with jelly rolls, which I will work on during my vacation this week.
I am going…to be on vacation in 26 hours and 26 minutes and on Saturday I am going to see a Frank Lloyd Wright house!
I am reading…Loving Frank by Nancy Horan for book club, will start reading Finger Lickin’ Fifteen (Stephanie Plum series) by Janet Evanovich, and the finish Outlander by Diana Gabaldon.
I am hoping…to finish the book club book on time
hahaha
I am hearing…104.5FM station.
Around the house…as per usual a couple of lazy dogs and a clean kitchen table, for once!
One of my favorite things…making April laugh (she knows why ;))
A few plans for the rest of the week…reading, relaxing, quilting and going north see a Frank Lloyd Wright house and eat at Homested in Independence.
A picture to share…years ago. Me with a Kerry Blue terrier I help rescue (1 of 34 that day).
| Bruises… | 24 Jun |
Words of wisdom:
Do not let off rear break in the middle of a quick stop, even when you are only going 15mph.
1 and 2. Face (couldn’t get a good picture of my cheek, but it’s already tons better) 3. swollen and ugly knee 4. swollen and ugly knee 5. back of knee
Not shown - swollen ankle with cut, 5 misc bruises on leg (the pictures looked weird). Accompanied with many of the bruises are knots that I’m trying to work out…especially the one on my chin.
